An outhaul is a control line found on a sailboat.it is an element of the running rigging, used to attach the mainsail clew to the boom and tensions the foot of the sail. it commonly uses a block at the boom end and a cleat on the boom, closer to the mast, to secure the line.. the outhaul is loosened to provide a fuller camber or tightened to give the sail foot a flatter camber. depending on. There is a small block in the boom that gives the outhaul a double purchase. most owners have fished the block out and went to a single line arrangement using a 5/16" line. to get the block out put a tag line on the line that comes out of the boom at the gooseneck, then pull the whole thing aft until the block comes out the aft end of the boom.. Lace the outhaul line through the end of the boom, the clew of the sail and back through the end of the boom. set your boom length to the maximum desired length you will need. leaving 20-25 cm (8-10") of slack, secure the end of the outhaul line to the adjustment pulley with a bowline..
