Gas Smell In Boat Cabin

gas smell in boat cabin

Long story short, we discovered that the repair place left screws out of the sending unit when they put it back in, which caused the boat to fill up with gasoline. we have since had everything repaired, but there is still gasoline odor in the cabin area. what can we do to rid the cabin of the odor so that we can go back to sleeping on it. thank. A thought and a question. old leaked gas and new gas have distinctly different smells. old gas can smell very much like motor oil once the volatility slips away, and, of course, varnished gas has a different smell altogether. my old wood lapstrake chris developed a gassy/oily smell over time. a very careful cleaning cured the problem.. Re: gas smell in cuddy a guy at my marina had a strong smell of gas in his cabin, lifted the engine hatch in his i/o and seen about 4 inches of gas in the bilge. clearly a leak, they had to pull his engine out to replace the fuel tank. even if you don't have gas in the bilge it still doesn't mean there's not a leak somewhere. good luck..

gas smell in boat cabin Purchased boat friday from local boat shop. when i asked about smell in cuddy, dealer said it was chemicals from porta podi. when i got home, four hours away, i opened cuddy and got a blast of gas smell. took out porta podi, aired out and then closed it up overnite. came back with same smell, gas, not toilet. checked bilge, no. It's not a strong gasoline smell like someone had left an open gas container inside the boat, only a whiff of the scents i'm describing as engine smell. my boat is fuel injected, so i don't see how that system might produce any real fuel smell? what i don't know anything about is the fuel filler/tank and breather system..
