Living on a sailboat now means looking out over cement parking lots, dumpster divers, meth addicts and boats in various states of disrepair. i miss anchoring out in beautiful places throughout the san francisco bay and cooking dinner as the sun throws bright reds and oranges across the horizon.. The price of living on a boat varies enormously, depending on the size and type of craft, the way you use it and the location of your mooring, should you choose to operate that way. maintenance costs, fuel and marina services all add to the cost, as do insurance fees, upgrades (every liveaboard boater makes them) and licence fees.. My husband, john, and i live aboard a sailboat currently anchored in marathon, fla. it’s easy to be self-sufficient on a small boat, and living on the water allows us to travel even with limited.
